We are definitely staying busy at the Media Center during the month of February! From individuals, to small groups, to a large conference, we’ve had a little bit of everything lately.
Northwest Tech Center Tour
At the very end of January, we had a group from the Northwest Tech Center in Alva, Oklahoma, up for a tour. They were very interested in learning more about video production. Grant gave them tips and recommended equipment. While the group was here, they even got to see one of our Kiowa County students in action as he shot footage for a project.
Our training and education are not limited to groups. Over the past few weeks, each one of us has given one-on-one technology assistance. Mike worked with Sylvia Jacobs from the Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau. She learned the basics of WordPress so she can manage the website WildWestCountry.com. This site promotes all things Southwest Kansas. Grant did some training with Sandra on the use of Adobe Premiere as well as audio recording equipment in order to produce a video honoring an employee in her business that is retiring. I also spent a little time to help someone install Microsoft Office 365 onto her computer. No question is too big or too small! You can always come to the Media Center for your technology needs.
On February 8, the Twilight Theatre hosted the Land O’ Lakes / Alliance Ag and Grain SUSTAIN Conference. Alliance Ag asked the Media Center to stream the conference online in its entirety. Attendance was good in-house and over 200 people tuned in online. The SUSTAIN message was able to reach key growers that control a substantial amount of acres in southwestern KS. The conference was definitely a team effort. Mike, Grant, Seth, Jonah, and Chase all worked very hard to make sure the day went smoothly.
Last month, Grant and Jonah spent some time in Pratt to film a marketing video for the product “SockAid.” A few weeks later, Grant shot some additional footage at the Media Center. This footage demonstrates how to effectively use the product. Grant will edit everything into a finished film that will be used to promote SockAid.
I have had a few different graphic design projects going on this month. The Kiowa County Historical Museum and Soda Fountain is holding a fundraiser on February 25. I was asked to create a flyer for this event, and it sounds like it will be a fun time! They will have prizes and games, and you can always treat yourself to something delicious from the soda fountain. I’ve also worked on updating a menu for a restaurant and will soon start designing some anniversary invitations.
