May at the Media Center

The month of May was bookended by two major events in Greensburg. The Media Center was proud to be a part of both the 10th Anniversary and Memorial Day festivities.

May 4 Weekend

At the beginning of the month, Greensburg commemorated the 1oth anniversary of the EF5 tornado that destroyed the majority of the town. The Media Center took part in the weekend’s events in several ways. We printed booklets and the schedule of events so they could be distributed around town. Grant set up and monitored the sound equipment during the memorial service at the Big Well. Mike partnered with Matt Deighton and Jeff Parness of the New York Says Thank You Foundation to assemble a weather balloon and attempt to launch a Star of Hope into space! Although that project didn’t go quite as planned, we had a great turnout of kids from Kiowa County Schools to watch the launch.

Matt Deighton and Mike work on assembling the weather balloon kit.

We topped off our weekend with a free showing of the Greensburg 10 Year Documentary at the Twilight Theatre on May 6. The film includes interviews and coverage of the rebuilding process following the May 4, 2007, tornado.  Quite a bit of work went into the documentary! When we totaled everything up, it took over 30 hours of interviews, over 200 hours of editing, and over 20 hours of administrative work. We received excellent feedback after the showing. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for more information on how you can order your copy of the documentary.

Crazy Mule Website Update

Mike worked with the folks at the Crazy Mule in Greensburg to update their website. Now you can go online, view their menu, and even place an order! The new system is still being tested, and is currently limited to the lunch menu. It will soon be expanded to include dinner and the rest of the menu items. Be sure to check it out at

Kansas Bed & Breakfast Association

We redesigned and launched a new website for the Kansas Bed & Breakfast Association. The new site includes a powerful directory system that makes it easier for users to find a B&B in their area as well as improved functionality for B&B owners to keep their listings up to date.

Jane Baker

Jane Baker of Bucklin reached out to us to record professional audio and video of her piano duet with Karla Brummett. You can hear them playing over on their new YouTube channel we set up: We also burned copies of CDs and DVDs for them to distribute. Be sure to reach out and tell them you enjoyed their music!

Memorial Weekend Rodeo

The 53rd Greensburg KPRA Rodeo took place over Memorial Day weekend. The Media Center was asked to help with marketing materials, so Jonah created a flyer and promo video to invite everyone to the event. We also printed all of the rodeo programs this year.

150 rodeo programs, ready to go!
